Altantuya: Police Investigate No Reports ATM Availability Babitkan Rosmah, said Raja Petra

SHAH ALAM, April 14: The author of Malaysia Today Raja Petra Kamaruddin said his interview with TV3, denied that he believed Mansor present at the scene Sharibuu killed her, only to attract the attention of the police to investigate the contents of the evidence on oath that they make.

Raja Petra reiterated sworn statement made by him was based on intelligence information that the Armed Forces have a report confirming the presence of two military officers Rosmah and when her death was bombed in October 2006.

Raja Petra explanation via his blog site, once retorted TV3 reports and other mainstream media are trying to give the impression that he was in the press to make a sworn statement by opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Raja Petra said in June 2008, he was informed by a fellow named Nik Nazmi Nik Daud, that the reports linking Rosmah and two military officers to the murder in the possession of Lt. Col. Col. Azmi Zainal Abidin, the number two in the Armed Forces Intelligence.

Nik Nazmi as it worked with the Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, said Raja Petra.

Nik Nazmi Raja Petra said he was persuaded to make a sworn statement and promised to provide intelligence reports on the ATM when the time comes.

Raja Petra said he then asked a man named John Pang to verify the existence of the report from Tengku Razaleigh.

Raja Petra claimed that John, like Nik Nazmi, also worked with Tengku Razaleigh. John confirmed that Tengku Razaleigh Lt Col Azmi closely identify and know about the intelligence report, said Raja Petra.

Raja Petra said another acquaintance named Din Merican, who worked in the office of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has also confirmed that the office often Lt.Kol Azmi Anwar and Anwar believes that intelligence officers.

"With confidence in it, I signed a sworn statement in the High Court of Kuala Lumpur," said Raja Petra.

"What I stated in my sworn statement is that I be informed about the (intelligence reports) that. I never said the three individuals are present at the scene. In a sworn statement, I urge the authorities to investigate the word of truth, "said Raja Petra.

Thus Raja Petra said the report published by TV3 did not bring any new exposure and he is aware of the possibility of an interview is distorted.

"For three years I have explained the background of my sworn statement that it rejected that explanation, and they still insist that I am claiming Rosmah and two army officers present at the scene the night Altantuya was murdered," said Raja Petra.

He said all information regarding the sworn statement given to police but no investigation was conducted on the individuals involved, especially Lt Col Azmi.

Raja Petra said he had agreed to be interviewed by TV3 as he wanted to attract the attention of the authorities need to investigate the validity of the sworn statement he made.

"I knew my interview with TV3 to be sensationalized. This sensation may be required for my version of the sworn statement given proper focus. I made the charges against Lt Col Zainal Azmi, the second person in the intelligence ATM, "said Raja Petra.

He said Nik Nazmi, who revealed the existence of intelligence reports that ATM, now turn back and be a supporter of Datuk Seri Najib Razak, while John Pang is now working with CIMB bank in Indonesia. CIMB is owned by Nazir Razak, the brother of Prime Minister .- tvs

IGP says man in sex video identified

Posted by singamaraja

UPDATED @ 05:33:20 PM 14-04-2011

April 14, 2011

KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 – Police have identified the man in the sex video allegedly featuring Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Tan Sri Ismail Omar said today.

The Inspector-General of Police (picture) said however that the police will not reveal the identity of the individual.

Ismail said that the investigation papers on the sex video probe will be completed next week.

Three weeks ago, a mysterious “Datuk T” had screened a video purportedly showing Anwar having sex with an unidentified woman.

Former Malacca Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik, businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and Perkasa treasurer-general Datuk Shuib Lazim then claimed responsibility for the video, saying they screened the video to show “a man who wants to be prime minister is not qualified.”

Anwar has consistently denied that he was the man in the video.

The PKR defacto leader had on March 22 trained his guns on Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, accusing them of being involved with the screening of the video to press members.

But both the PM and the home minister denied any involvement by the police and Home Ministry over the emergence of the sex video.

A 107-second snippet surfaced on the Internet on last week, just two days after police said the video was not doctored.

It made public part of the video that was only screened to select individuals and reporters prior to this but the clip has since been taken down from YouTube for violating the video site’s policy on nudity and sexual content.

PKR has claimed that the clip proved the man in the video was not their de facto leader and repeated their demand that the trio be arrested for pornography.

DAP lawmaker and veteran lawyer Karpal Singh said recently that the “Datuk T” trio could be charged under section 292 of the Penal Code and section 5 of the Film Censorship Act for allegedly distributing obscene material as well as criminal defamation and criminal intimidation.

Section 372 (1) of the Penal Code states that it is only a crime if a person “sells, lets for hire... procures, buys or hires or otherwise obtains possession of” any person with the intention of employing, or using that same person for the purpose of prostitution.

The section states that it is also a crime to utilise “deceitful means” to assist in bringing a person in Malaysia for the purpose of prostitution.

Sections 372a and 372b state that it is a crime to live off the earnings of the prostitution of another person and it is also against the law to solicit for the purpose of prostitution.

The Penal Code does not say that it is illegal for an individual to engage in sex with a prostitute in Malaysia.

BN not keen in resolving Bible now'

Posted by singamaraja

Pakatan Rakyat does not believe that BN is interested in any permanent solution to the issues concerning the Bible and the use of the term 'Allah' by non-Muslims in Sarawak.

"The so-called 10-point solution announced by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Idris Jala recently," DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said today, "are for political expediency only meant for the Sarawak election."

NONE"What happens after Saturday can be something else," Lim told reporters after a closed-door meeting among Pakatan leaders and church leaders from Sarawak in Kuching today.

"The solution proposed is meant to fish for votes for BN in this election and not sincere or honest," Lim said.

He said the BN government would not have come up with the solution if it had not been for the Sarawak election.

"This is very clear from the release of the solution... but, of course, they will deny that it is meant to attract the voters to vote for the BN candidates," added Lim, who is also Chief Minister of Penang.

He said the BN leaders would call for everyone concerned about the Bible issue to forgive one another, but Pakatan feels this was not done with sincerity.

Lim said the church leaders in Sarawak appreciated Pakatan's position on the matter at the closed-door meeting, and that they did not take sides.

"They took notes of the discussions with the PR leaders on the problems facing the Christian community and they appreciate our views on the issues," he said.

"Our approach to the Bible issue has nothing to do with the Sarawak state elections on Saturday, for we made our stand long before the dissolution of the Sarawak legislative assembly," he added.

http://buletinonline.net/images/stories/prnsarawak1/jet%201%20&%202a.jpgKUALA TERENGGANU - Kehadiran tiga buah pesawat rasmi kerajaan Malaysia di Lapangan Terbang Kuching membayangkan betapa 'seriusnya' perasaan cemas pemimpin Barisan Nasional menghadapi pilihanraya negeri (PRN) Sarawak ke-10.

The Rape of Bario

Posted by singamaraja

KUCHING: In June last year, Wong Mun Hoe, 29, boarded a small aircraft taking off from Miri to Bario. As the plane climbed higher, he looked down at the landscape and reeled in shock.

A coarse brown line snaked through the rainforest for what seemed like an endless stretch. Wong remembered that the journey took 35 minutes with the grotesque streak accompanying them throughout. He estimated the distance to be at least 100km. It turned out to be 300km.

“The trail only ended a short distance from Sarawak’s border with Kalimantan,” he told FMT in a phone interview. “The amount of land harvested from the rainforest was staggering.”

And with that Wong gave voice to the Borneo Resources Institute’s (Brimas) worst nightmare. In 2008, Brimas has expressed deep concern over the construction of a logging road connecting Bario highlands with Miri.

The road was built by Samling Corporation, one of the top five logging companies in Sarawak and a global giant in timber trade. That was enough reason for Brimas to suspect that it was a front to open up the whole Bario highlands for timber extraction. Brimas was right.

Bario, which is geographically similar to Genting Highlands, is populated by the Lun Bawangs and Kelabits. A prominent Kelabit who came from the area is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Idris Jala.

Since the construction of the logging road, his community has had to deal with the dreaded slew of troubles that are delivered right to their doorsteps.

“Many tourists used to visit Bario to jungle trek and bird watch,” said Wong. “But with the deforestation there are fewer animals so tourists have stopped coming. And the villagers have lost an important source of income.”

Fragile ecosystem

In an interview published in Kelabit News, Brimas director, Mark Bujang, warned that Bario was an ecologically important region with a fragile ecosystem and weather system.

“Logging immediately changes an environment’s bio-diversity,” he said. “Land is compacted by the Caterpillar tractors and heavy trucks moving up and down with the loads of timber. Rivers get silted, dirty and unfit for life.”

Wong confirmed that the streams in Bario are already suffering alarmingly low water levels which have dealt the villagers another blow.

“The villagers travel by boat from one point to the next,” he explained. “But now their boats are grounded and they have to travel on foot.”

“They also said that the old roads were wide enough only for a motorcycle. Now huge lorries are easily passing through. But they can’t do anything about it because Bario’s paramount chief is friendly with the state government.”

And the government is adamant that the logging road has brought about more perks than problems.

Three years ago, the then Ba’Kelalan state assemblyman, Nelson Balang Rining, emphasised the importance of the road in “linking the highlands people with the outside world”.

“It will open up accessibility to settlements that were once only linked by flights,” he had said. “It will facilitate easier transport of fuel and food to the remote highland settlements.”

Balang also clarified that the road belonged to Samling and not the state or federal government. However, he added that the government hoped to eventually adopt and tar-seal it.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Chief Minister Taib Mahmud just last month denied reports of massive deforestation in Sarawak and invited international teams to verify that more than 70% of rainforests remain intact.

“They will see we still have much more rainforest than people give us credit for, to be preserved for the next generations,” he stated.

Climate has changed

Bujang meanwhile said the deforestation would continue because the state government has given Samling control of the land.

Australia’s Green Party wants Lynas ore to be radiation-free

April 14, 2011

KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 — The Green Party called yesterday for the Western Australian government to force rare earth miner Lynas Corp to ensure that the raw material it plans to process in Kuantan will be free from radiation.

Robin Chapple, a member of the Western Australian legislative council, said that no thorium, the radioactive element found in virtually all rare earth deposits, should leave Lynas’ Mount Weld mine located in the state.

“The premier must take action to compel Lynas to ensure that no thorium leaves the Mt Weld mine site,” said the state Greens spokesman on nuclear and waste management.

He said the state’s head of government Colin Barnett has stated repeatedly that no uranium should be exported from Western Australia.

“I would hope that he does not want to also be complicit in the dumping of radioactive waste in another country,” Chapple (picture) said.

The move applies pressure on the state government to step in as it also faces calls to revoke the licence of lead miner Magellan after excess amounts of the heavy metal was found caked onto a shipping container last week, forcing it to halt shipments for a third time.

Malaysian environmentalists and residents living near the RM700 million plant in the Gebeng industrial zone have raised questions over the potential environmental hazards arising from radioactive waste being produced and stored at the plant.

Lynas has assured critics that its Mount Weld mine Down Under was one of three unique sites with rare earth deposits containing very low amounts of thorium and should not be compared to the last rare earth plant in Malaysia in Bukit Merah.

Nearly 20 years after it was shuttered, the plant is still being cleaned up at a cost of RM303 million and has been linked to at least eight cases of leukaemia, seven resulting in death.

“I am deeply worried that the proposed Lynas Mount Weld operation plans to remove only the bare minimum of thorium from its rare earth product, apparently so as not to trigger special export licence requirements for hazardous material,” Chapple said.

Lynas has said its concentrated ore is not considered radioactive by the Australian government, having only 0.16 per cent thorium content.

The member of Western Australia’s upper legislative house said that PKR’s Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh “has called for any thorium refined from the exported material to be returned to Australia.”

But the Western Australian government said this week it will not take back the Lynas radioactive waste, stating that it does not support the importation and storage of “other countries’ radioactive waste.”

“Perhaps because of this, the Malaysian Atomic Energy Licensing Board has yet to receive a pre-operation licence application from Lynas Corporation,” Chapple said.

Lynas expects to receive a preliminary operating licence from the Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) before September which will be renewed as a full licence after three years should the plant comply to agreed standards.

The company hopes the plant will bring in RM8 billion annually from 2013 based on the refined metals’ current prices, when it will produce one-third of the world’s demand outside of China.

PM accused of pulling wool over public's eyes

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has accused Prime Minister Najib Razak of hoodwinking the people pertaining to last year's financial statement of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

"We have today 1MDB's financial statements that expose the Barisan Nasional's blatant abuse of government funds and how it continues to mismanage the country," he said.

He was basing his comments on the IMDB's financial statement dated March 31, 2010.

He pointed out that he had last year aired his concern over 1MDB when Pakatan Rakyat exposed how the fund, which had been already allocated RM5 billion in 2009 via government bonds, was planning to raise another RM10 billion, which would have pushed up the fund's liabilities to RM15 billion by 2013.

NONEHe alleged that Najib had hoodwinked the people when he said that 1MDB had declared a profit of RM426 million in the first year of operations.

"He never told us how," Anwar (right) said.

He added that 1MDB was able to declare a profit for March 31, 2010 because it entered into a very suspicious transaction tantamount to a blatant attempt to deceive the people.

Back and forth dealings

"The profit declared was nothing more than an accounting entry to hide a trail of arrangements to create slush funds for the Barisan Nasional.

"Hardly five months after paying RM3.5 billion in cash for an investment in a joint venture with PetroSaudi of Saudi Arabia, 1MDB sold the invest back to the owners of the Saudi concern for RM4.1 billion.

"On the surface, this looks like stunning financial returns, roughly a RM615 million gain that helped 1MDB show profit.

"But careful reviews of the 1MDB's financial statements show a different picture," he said, adding that PetroSaudi is now paying for the transaction through an 11-year old loan scheme that will only be fully repaid in March 31, 2021," Anwar said.

He said nearly 70 percent of 1MDB's original capital is now tied-up in a loan, with no certainty of repayment.

He said PetroSaudi and many of its associates are companies incorporated in tax havens, such as Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands.

"Therefore, there will be no transparency of the transactions among 1MDB and PetroSaudi and its associates which will remain shrouded in secrecy," he said.

Sleight of hand figures

Anwar said more astonishingly the deal to sell the investment was sealed on March 31, 2010, the last day of 1MDB's financial year.

"This sleight of hand accounting is a blatant attempt to show the dubious profit that Najib declared," he added.

"What is also as explosive is that Sarawak Chief Minister Taib Mahmud's connection to 1MDB and the dubious transactions it recorded.

"Last year, PetroSaudi paid over RM1.5 billion to take over UBG Berhad, the financial arm of the business empire of Taib Mahmud's family that was facing difficulties.

He said in the light of the massive and unprecedented spending and political bribery seen in the Sarawak elections, Pakatan Rakyat demands the appointment of a special audit team to probe the transactions involving 1MDB, PetroSaudi and UGB to ascertain whether the government money been used for setting up a political slush fund.

He also called for an immediate halt to 1MDB's efforts to raise more funds from banks until the probe is completed.

Anwar also called for a freeze on any attempt by the Barisan Nasional to transfer any government property to 1MDB, such as the plan to award the company a prime piece of real estate in Jalan Cochrane.

"There should be a full disclosure of who is behind PetroSaudi and 1MDB and whether 1MDB is financially sound to meet all its obligations to repay the loan," he said.

Sambutan diluar jangka

Anwar berkata rakyat Sarawak bukan sahaja ingin Taib berundur tetapi mahu BN Sarawak turut berbuat demikian.

Race politics rears its head in Sarawak

April 14, 2011

ANALYSIS, April 14 — The Sarawak election campaign has brought to the surface racial undercurrents in the state that have been festering due to a growing urban-rural divide.

Alleged favouritism towards Malay-Melanaus and the rise of companies related to the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) have fed dissatisfaction among other ethnic groups.

These economic concerns have brought into sharp focus the communal politics here that has been kept under wraps during decades of uninterrupted BN rule.

Saturday's state election is expected to see the DAP making extensive gains in Chinese-majority seats with BN continuing to dominate Malay-Melanau areas.

PKR is also confident of making inroads with Dayak voters, who have consistently thrown their support behind BN in the past.

This would mirror the situation in the peninsula, where Pakatan Rakyat (PR) has raked in over two-thirds of Chinese votes since the 2008 general election but found its support among Malays and Indians slipping.

While peninsula politics has been more racialised compared to Sarawak which lacks the heated rhetoric of special positions, quotas and “jangan cabar hak kita (don't challenge our rights),” it does not mean race is not a factor in the state at all.

Conversations with ordinary Sarawakians on what kind of Sarawak they want show that their identity as part of a bigger ethnic group features strongly.

The future of that community is also a strong undercurrent that will influence how they will vote on April 16.

No clear majority

A prominent Sarawak blogger once said the reason why relations between the different ethnic groups are more harmonious than the peninsula is that no one group can form a clear majority.

Roughly speaking, Sarawak society is 40-30-30, Dayaks being the “40” and the Chinese and Malay/Melanaus, comprising each of the “30s”. But even among the Dayaks there are dozens of ethnic sub-groups such as the Bidayuh, Iban and Orang Ulu, each with their own unique language.

A peculiar classification is the Malay-slash-Melanau. This is where the Constitution forces itself onto a local condition and tries to make it conform to its demands.

Melanaus have their own culture and language which is a whole world away from official Bahasa Malaysia. Almost all Melanaus are either Christian or Muslim.

But when a Melanau is Muslim, they can also be classified as “Malay” and get with it a whole set of privileges.

Andie Bakom, an Iban pensioner, complained that when Dayaks try for more senior positions in either the local or federal level civil service, few get through.

“Kalau you ‘bin’ senang sikit. Kalau you ‘ak’, susah (if you are a 'bin' it is easier, if you are an 'ak' it is more difficult),” he said, adding it explains why there are very few at the upper echelons of the bureaucracy. (Bin is a term used for Muslims while ak is “anak kepada”, which Dayaks use.)

One of Bakrom’s neighbours in the Sungai Aup longhouse, James, complained of how the Ibans in the Sibu area have been pushed out of business ownership.

His comments further reflect a frustration about the unofficial hierarchy of privilege among the indigenous natives of Sarawak.

“Where are the Bumiputera businesses in Sibu? They only trade in the market. Even all the food stalls, they are all Melanau. They are not Malays, they all speak Melanau. The others are Chinese.”

My race against yours, Sarawak style

In the town centre of Sibu, the only pictures of Chief Minister Taib are the ones where he is pilloried as a robber-baron.

A particularly huge one next to the Sibu district police headquarters has Taib and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng side by side.

On the left is a smiling Lim in a Western suit. On the right is sinister Taib with a sneer, dark glasses and the Melanau cloth cap called a sengkulon.

A five-minute drive away is Kampung Nangka, Sibu’s Malay and Melanau enclave. Here, posters of an affable Taib are strung up along with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Nangka BN candidate Dr Anwar Rapee.

The contrast between the Chinese-majority areas and Nangka is not lost among residents. BN and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) have been quick to point this out.

“The more the DAP attacks Taib, the more entrenched BN’s support is among the people of Nangka,” said a BN activist who flew in from the peninsula to help the campaign.

Half of the houses in Nangka have strung up the trademark dark blue “dacing” (scales) on their verandas, porches and fences.

One resident, who wanted to be called Ahmad Rozad, said "as bad as people make out Taib to be at least he is a Muslim. If there was a non-Muslim on top, “habis lah orang Islam (Muslims will be finished).”

The DAP has tried to eliminate any racial overtones from its campaign, said secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

“I admit it’s a problem and we are working on it,” Lim said when pointed out that its ceramahs, flyers and campaign message were Chinese-centric.

Yet for the ordinary grassroots activist, it is easy to frame the campaign through an ethnic lens.

When asked what are the PR’s chances in taking over Sarawak, a DAP supporter said “the only thing holding us back are the Ibans and the Malay-Melanaus.”

In the tsunami’s wake

Universiti Malaysia Sarawak political scientist Dr Andrew Aeria traces this strong racial undercurrent as coming from 30 years of Umno-led, federal BN rule.

It's seen in how Sarawak BN’s multiracial parties have been refashioned to be dominated by one race — PBB by Muslim Bumiputeras, Sarawak United People's Party by elite Chinese and Parti Rakyat Sarawak by Dayaks.

“With increasing racialisation of politics by BN, the opposition has also responded accordingly.

“DAP is largely emerging as a champion for Chinese business interests and PKR is being pushed into mainly representing rural Dayak and Muslim Bumiputera interests,” said Aeria.

Nangka’s BN candidate Dr Annuar Rapa’ee does not feel that the coming political fragmentation of Sarawak — the Chinese overwhelmingly supporting the opposition and BN representing everyone else — as a problem.

“It’s just a voting trend. It’s not a race thing. Where else in Malaysia can you go and find Chinese coffeeshops with Muslim food sellers? I believe in my area the Chinese will support me based on my personality,” said the 47-year-old cardiologist.

Aeria, however, feels that if the DAP wins big, as many predict, it’s just a matter of time before Sarawak will see the emotionally-charged racial rhetoric of the peninsula.

“Muslim Bumiputera interests and native Dayak interests being pitted against Chinese interests will suit both BN and DAP as it will allow both to continue playing up their respective chauvinistic constituencies for their own narrow interests,” he said.

So if the 2008 tsunami does come to Sarawak on April 16 as the PR hopes, it will ironically bring both change and strife in its wake.

Azmin Bertembung Ezam Di Sungai Sarawak

Mohd Sayuti Omar

Undi Kristian, Cina penentu nasib Taib Mahmud?

Sidang Media DS Anwar : Wartawan Sarawak Tegur Sikap Pemberita 8TV
